My love of design began with the X-Men. Really. When I was about 14, I started collecting comic cards. Then I started reading comics. After endless hours of sketching Jean Grey, Storm, and Psylocke, I realized I wanted more. Not more female superheroes, but more art in my life. At 18, I enrolled in the fine arts program at Rochester Institute of Technology, and dove in, head first.
Though I entered school dead set on illustration (hellooo…Marvel Comics!), my first year at the school of design exposed me to a whole other, fascinating world. I learned all of the basics — figure drawing, 2D, 3D. Suddenly the world of typography was opened to me, and my love shifted from heroes and villains to serifs and grids.
Graphic Design allows me to incorporate my love of type, layout and illustration into an exciting and fulfilling career. I have grown throughout my nine years in the field, and have developed my own distinct style. But rest assured, my artistic sophistication has in no way diminished my love of comic books.
